How to use your Organic Savon de Marseille

Zero waste cleaning has never been easier with these solid packaging free Organic Marseille Soap Bars

I have it on good authority from a friend who grew up in France that Savon de Marseille was used by everyone for everything. I’m told it was used for babies as it is so mild and pure as well as those with skin problems. French grannies swear by it so let’s give it a go.

STAIN REMOVER

To use your Organic Savon de Marseille as a stain remover on clothing you can rub the stain with a barely damp Marseille bar. A crust will form. Let dry. Wash as normal. Voila! The stain has gone.

I can certainly vouch for this. I had a large coffee stain on white sheets (sob). I rubbed the damp bar onto the stain and then washed in the machine as normal. There was not a trace of coffee left. I was delighted.

WASHING DISHES

The are two simple ways to use Savon de Marseille for your dishes. We love this as it eliminates the need for plastic bottles completely from the washing up cycle. Even large refill bottles and boxes with plastic bags produce unnecessary waste and cost to the environment. As Marseille soap is sold completely ‘naked’ there is no need to bring any packaging into your home to wish dishes at all.

  1. Place your Marseille bar on a soap dish/rest rub a wet cloth or sponge and rub the cloth/sponge over your dishes then rinse off. Dry as normal. You can also rub with your pot brush but you won’t get much lather. However, lather is not necessary to cleanse or sanitise. Lather just makes us feel better about the cleansing process. It is the surfactants, or the surface active agents, in the soap that does the job. The surfactants work with to break down cells of the bacteria and eliminate them leaving you with a clean surface to work with.

  2. Grate your Marseille bar and mix about 50-60g with warm water. Add a little essential oil, maybe lemon, lime or orange (remember to ear gloves when handling essential oils) place in a bottle and use as you would washing up liquid. Again there will not be bubbles, but bubbles do not clean.

DOG SHAMPOO

  1. Rub you ‘dog wash cloth’ over the soap and scrub your little puppy as usual. Rinse well.

  2. Or, make a solution as for washing up leaving out any essential oils and use as you would your normal doggy shampoo.

LAUNDRY SOAP

  1. Grate about 20g of your Savon de Marseille and dissolve in warm water

  2. Add 1tsp of Bicarbonate of Soda and stir well.

  3. Place the liquid in the drawer of your washing machine and wash as normal. Use our vinegar and essential oils recipe for your fabric softener.

HOUSEHOLD CLEANER

  1. Grate 60g of your soap bar and dissolve in warm water

  2. Add a few drops of a well chosen essential oil - tea tree, lemon or orange.

  3. Place in a reusable trigger spray bottle and use as a multi-purpose household cleaner.
