the oils that make the soap;
Coconut & Olive Oils are great base oils for making soap, most soap makers will use them as their go to oils We have also added Avocado oil, which is made from the fruit rather than the seed of the avocado. is full of great vitamins including A, B1, B2 & D. Avocado oil is a favourite for us as it is so good at hydrating and repairing damaged skin. You will also find it in our lip balm. Hemp Seed oil is a delicate oil and we take care to only warm the oil to the temperature required for saponification (that’s the term for turning the fatty acids into soap). Its full of Omega 3 & 6 and is another favourite of ours for use on skin. Aloe is well known for its calming and soothing qualities that has been used for healing burns and scars for centuries. The Aloe we use is an extract that is infused in yet more coconut oil adding yet more luxurious ingredients into the soap.
the essential oils;
Bergamot - Citrus Bergamia Oil. Famous for Earl Grey tea, and smelling every bit as good as, this lovely oil is produced in Sicily. This citrus oil is wild harvested from the Italian hills and the Bergamot peel is expressed to create this amazing essential oil. Known for its soothing and cooling effects or dry skin we have used it as our lead essential oil in this soap. But the scent is as good for you as the oil is as the aroma is known for balancing mood and easing anxiety.
Cedarwood Oil - Cedrus Atlantica Wood Oil. Made from the bark of the cedarwood tree and one of our most favourite aromas of all the essential oils we use here at Made in the Glen. Cedarwood contains high levels of anti-inflammatory properties. Plus its scent is known for its uplifting qualities to chase away nervous tension, anxiety and tiredness.
Siberian Fir - Abies Sibirica Needle Oil. Steam distilled from the needles and branches of Abies Sibricia, Pinaceae, this distinctively woody essential oil carries a masculine aroma that uplifts and purifies. We have added just a touch for a masculine fresh scent.
A word on gylcerin:
during the soap making process glycerin is produced. Glycerin is commonly used in the cosmetic industry to moisturise the skin. In commercial soap making the glycerin may be removed from the soap - and then added into a hand lotion to use separately. In artisan soap making the glycerin is left. This results in a much more softening and moisturising bar of soap that is gentler and less drying on your skin. But, because glycerin is a humectant (draws water from the environment to itself) it means you will need to keep your handmade soap well drained to dry out between uses to keep it at its best and help it last.
a word on ethics:
the essentials oils (or any of their components) that we have chosen for use in our soaps have not been tested on animals by us or for us or by our ingredient suppliers.
This is what our testers have said.
