Behind the Scenes: The Making of Our Scottish Lambswool Slouch Hat
Carol ( mama MITG) hand-knits Scottish lambswool slouch hats to match our infinity scarves using the same yarn. Her unique design of slouch hat, with a textured stitch pattern, not only adds warmth but also style to the wearer. Despite having arthritic hands, Carol takes great care in crafting each hat, drawing on her extensive experience in hand-knitting. It’s clear that these hats are a true labour of love.
A Guide to Our Supersoft Scottish Lambswool
Todd & Duncan
Todd & Duncan is a long-standing Scottish business that specializes in spinning cashmere and lambswool for more than a century and a half. Situated near the banks of Loch Leven, where Mary Queen of Scots was once held captive, the company utilises the pure and soft loch water to dye its yarn. Furthermore, the water is thoroughly purified and returned to the loch. While Todd & Duncan is primarily recognized for its cashmere, we adore the exceptionally tender Scottish lambswool they produce.
Cruelty-Free Fibres
Sourcing our yarn from Todd & Duncan, guarantees that it is mulesing-free. Mulesing is a procedure that involves removing strips of skin from the sheep’s breech area to prevent flystrike. This can cause discomfort to the animal and has become a concern for animal welfare. Above all, by choosing museling-free wool, we can ensure that the sheep are raised humanely and compassionately.
Sustainable and bio-degradable
Sheep are sheared annually, making lambswool a renewable resource that doesn’t deplete stocks. Being a natural fibre, it’s fully biodegradable and breaks down over time without causing pollution or waste, making it an eco-friendly alternative to synthetic materials like acrylic that contribute to the build-up of non-biodegradable waste.
Caring for your Supersoft Scottish Lambswool Slouch Hat:
We wash every hat by hand to ensure its softness before we send it to you. We recommend that you wash your hat periodically to keep it fresh and clean. To do this, simply hand wash it in warm water using a suitable wool detergent, we recommend this one. Rinse it thoroughly in cooler water and make sure that all detergent has been removed. To wring it out simply wrap it in a large towel and twist the towel to wring it out. Afterwards, lay the hat out flat on a fresh dry towel to air dry. If needed, you can very gently press it with a cool iron. Just remember not to tumble dry or machine wash it.
