From Nature to Face Cloth: A Responsible and Sustainable Choice.

Every Linen Face Cloth we make is made on a Silver Reed knitting machine, ensuring the highest level of quality.  Each one is knitted individually by either Christine or Carol.  They are then meticulously steam-pressed into a perfect square.  We take immense pride in these Linen Face Cloths.  From start to finish, we aim to create a product that embodies excellence, so that you can indulge in a little luxurious pampering every day.

A Guide to Linen:

sustainable flax crop growing in a field
Flax  – Linum usitatissimum

Flax, also known as linseed, is a versatile plant that has a long history in food and textiles. Interestingly, flax is more sustainable than cotton because it requires less water to grow. Furthermore, it doesn’t require synthetic fertilisers or pesticides. It helps reduce the amount of carbon in the atmosphere. At the same time, any fibres made from flax are fully biodegradable.

Linen as a textile

The stems of the flax plant are soaked in water to extract the fibres. The fibres are loosened, separated from the woody stems and other impurities and finally spun into yarn. The yarn is often woven into fabric to become bedding, furniture coverings or clothing. Or it is knitted and made into garments and other items.

Recycled Linen

We all know that the textile industry produces significant waste, including fabric scraps, offcuts, and unsold garments, contributing to pollution and a waste crisis. With this in mind, we approached a mill in Italy that’s recycling some of the industry’s waste to create new yarns. We use their recycled linen to make our Face Cloths.
