At Made in the Glen, everything we make is a testament to our commitment to sustainability and the art of craftsmanship, and our bottle stopper collection is no exception. Each one is individually turned on our Jet lathe and is a unique design.

A quick guide to our bottle stoppers:

Unearthing Reclaimed Materials

Before your bottle stopper takes shape, we seek out reclaimed materials, such as weathered wood from retired whisky barrels, worn out furniture that has seen better days, or even a pine cone picked up from the forest floor.

The Process

We turn each bottle stopper on our Jet lathe. After selecting our chosen material, we use a chisel to carve the spinning wood into the desired shape. The piece is then sanded, and finishing oil is applied. The stopper of the product is then secured using a food-safe adhesive.

sustainable gifting
A Handmade Gift from Scotland

Each bottle stopper is not just an exquisite piece of art; it’s a meaningful gift for loved ones and a thoughtful choice for the planet. By choosing one of our stoppers, you’re supporting sustainable practices and bringing joy to someone’s life with a piece of Scotland’s natural beauty.

Caring for your Bottle Stopper:

  • Clean the bottle opener using a mild detergent and warm water, as necessary.
  • Gently dry the bottle opener and handle well after cleaning to avoid moisture damage.
  • Do not soak the bottle opener in water.
  • Occasionally apply a food-safe oil to the mahogany handle to maintain its lustre and to avoid it drying out.
  • Store in a dry and cool place, away from direct sunlight.
