Behind the Scenes: The Making of our Tweed and Cotton Crossbody Tote.
Our tweed and cotton crossbody tote bags is crafted with care, right from selecting the fabric and design, through to the neat stitching. Liz, our designer, envisions the perfect blend of colours, pockets, and straps for each bag. Carol subsequently brings the vision to life with her skilled sewing and, as always, her meticulous attention to detail.
A Guide to the Materials in Our Tweed and Cotton Crossbody Tote:
Tweed
We take great pleasure in working with renowned Scottish tweeds such as Harris Tweed, Lovat Tweed and Kingcraig Tweed when making our bags and totes. These exceptional tweeds showcase the rich heritage of Scottish textiles. Incorporating these esteemed tweeds into our handmade totes allows us to celebrate the essence of Scotland and share its legacy with our customers. In this crossbody tote Liz has paired Harris Tweed with a cotton blend fabric made in Spain.
Organic Cotton
At our core, we prioritise sustainability and environmental responsibility. That’s why we always opt for organic cotton whenever possible. In the case of our crossbody tote, we have chosen organic cotton webbing for the straps. Not only is organic cotton better for the environment, but it also boasts exceptional quality. With its durability and eco-friendly attributes, our choice of organic cotton webbing ensures both style and sustainability.
Cotton Thread
We use organic cotton thread at every step of our stitching process. We believe it is superior to non-organic alternatives for the environment. Our ethos is to pay attention to even the smallest details, ensuring that every aspect of our production remains as ethical as possible, aligning with our dedication to sustainability and responsible practices.
Caring for your Tweed and cotton crossbody tote:
- Spot clean any stains on the Harris Tweed fabric using a mild detergent and a soft cloth, gently dab the stain and rinse.
- Do not wash your bag in the washing machine as this may damage the Harris Tweed.
- If necessary, professional dry clean.
- Store the bag in a cool, dry place preferably in a dust bag or breathable fabric cover to protect from dust.
- If necessary iron the fabric of the bag, with a cool iron. Avoid ironing directly on any Harris Tweed, iron the tweed cover first with a cloth such as a clean tea towel.
