Behind the Scenes: Julia Anne's Creative Process

The Art of Watercolours

Julia Anne begins by tearing her handmade cotton rag paper to size, giving each piece a natural, deckled edge. She wets the surface and works with carefully chosen brushes and colours, layering watercolours and pigments to bring each design to life. the result is a soft, expressive image, rooted in nature, ready to be mounted onto a card.

The Materials Julia Anne Works With

Julia Anne paints on handmade cotton rag paper. She uses a mix of Winsor & Newton and Daniel Smith Professional Watercolours, alongside vibrant Brusho Crystal Colour Pigments for added depth. Her brush collection includes Silver Brush Black Velvet No 8 and Da Vinci brushes – ideal for creating delicate lines, loose washes, and the fine details that bring each piece to life.

Sustainable Materials: Recycled Card & Paper

Julia Anne’s Art cards are crafted using A6 card blanks, made in the UK from grey-scale recycled paper. Each one is paired with a matching recycled envelope, ensuring the entire product is eco-conscious from start to finish. Julia provides these cards ‘naked’ to keep them even more sustainable.
