The large, sunshine-yellow flowers of the flag iris brighten the margins of lochans and waterways across the Western Isles. These hardy blooms provide vital habitat for insects, amphibians, and birds, including the elusive corncrake.

It is this quiet, ecological richness that inspired Julia Anne’s watercolour painting.
