Behind the Scenes: Elizabeth's Creative Process

The Art of Ink & Watercolours

Liz makes her Ink & Watercolour Cards in small batches of four.  She follows the same creative process every time.  After selecting her design, Liz stamps the image onto high-quality watercolour paper using Archival black ink.  She then starts painting with the watercolours, working from light to dark, gradually building the layers to the darkest shade.  While the paint is still wet, she tilts the cards in different directions, allowing the colours to follow and blend naturally.  To add a final flourish, Liz uses two brushes to flick delicate splashes of colour across the design, creating a vibrant and dynamic finish.

The Materials Elizabeth Chooses

Liz uses premium 300gsm watercolour paper, favouring Winsor & Newton or Arches for their excellent texture and durability.  Each design is stamped with Archival black ink, ensuring crisp long-lasting detail.  Winsor & Newton, Daniel Smith and Schmineke watercolour paints are applied with flare, giving each card its rich colour and expressive character.
