Description

Exfoliating Hand Soap: A Deep, Refreshing Clean.

Our hands take a battering when we work hard. Whether it’s working in the garden or fixing the chain on a mountain bike, we need a good cleanser to scrub away the dirt. By adding ground cinnamon as an exfoliant, our hand soap helps to slough off dead skin cells, bacteria, and dirt. By cleansing our working hands and removing dead skin cells, we make way for new cell growth and fresher-looking skin.

A guide to the essential oils in our exfoliating hand soap:

Sweet Orange Essential Oil

Sweet Orange Oil – Citrus aurantium dulcis oil.

You’re undoubtedly familiar with the oils of an orange as you get it on your fingers whenever you peel one to eat. These oils are expressed from the peel to make the Sweet Orange Oil we put in our exfoliating hand soap. Orange Oil is known for its cleansing properties as well as having a good vitamin content. It’s high in antioxidants that fight free radicals. Plus, it has one of the best aromas of citrus essential oils.

Cinnamon Leaf Essential Oil

Cinnamon Leaf Essential Oil – Cinnamomum zeylanicum leaf oil.

Some say the best cinnamon comes from Sri Lanka, and that is where we get ours from. The cinnamon leaf is wild harvested and then steam distilled to create this powerful essential oil that blends well with the orange oil. Cinnamon was used by the ancient Egyptians because of its warm and spicy aroma. We have chosen it for its energizing and uplifting scent as well as its cleansing properties.

More information about our exfoliating hand soap

Why is artisan soap so special?

Glycerin is a by-product of soap making. Since glycerin is a moisturising agent, it is often removed from the soap and added to lotions and creams. Whereas, in artisan soap making, glycerin is left where it naturally occurs. This results in a more moisturising bar of soap that is less drying on your skin.

What is the best way to use the soap?

Because glycerin attracts water, keep your soap dry between uses for best results. Keep your hand soap on a dish that has good drainage and never leave the bar sitting in the water. Try with one of our whisky cask soap dishes.

How is soap made?

Soap is made by mixing fatty acids (in oils) with lye (made from sodium hydroxide – or caustic soda).  The chemical process called saponification, splits the fatty acids from the glycerol and creates a solid soap which is in fact a salt.

Does the hand soap have a preservative?

No it is not necessary to add preservatives to solid soaps because they don’t contain any water.  In addition,  very little in the way of bacteria grows in soap.
