From Kiln to Your Home: The Making of Our Ceramic Tealight Cup

a potters kiln

We knew you would fall in love with a wee ceramic tealight cup. Therefore, we commissioned these exquisite ceramic tealight cups from talented local ceramicist Hannah Morrison. Hannah took our design and made it a reality. We then set to and designed our sustainable tealight that fit perfectly inside.

Hannah likes to work with white clay. She throws each tiny cup on her wheel and then stretches out the little handles. The cups are then fired in her kiln, glazed and fired again. You can find out more about Hannah here.

When you use the ceramic cup with one of our naked tealights, you can enjoy the beauty of candlelight without the waste associated with traditional tealights. We have designed these naked tealights to fit perfectly into the little cups to reduce metal waste and our carbon footprint.

Naked tealights: The Ethical Choice.

Liz has discovered a way to create tealights that don’t require a metal cup by using pillar wax.  These tealights are crafted from vegan soy wax which is a renewable and sustainable resource derived from soybean oil.  Additionally, soy was is biodegradable and emits fewer toxins and soot than paraffin wax candles.  Our naked tealights are meticulously hand-poured in small batches in Scotland.  To replenish your supply, you can easily purchase more tealights here.

Caring for your ceramic tealight cup.

To easily remove wax from a ceramic cup, place it in a shallow dish of hot water for a minute or two until the wax begins to melt. Gently push the wax at the edge and it should come right out. Alternatively, you can completely melt the wax and clean up any residue with a tissue. Before washing your cup, make sure to remove all leftover wax. Once it’s clean, you’re good to go and ready to use a new naked tealight.
